“Celebrate! Stanley Park” as it turns 125

On August 24 and 25, the City of Vancouver will be throwing a two-day party for our fair Stanley Park to celebrate its 125th birthday.

The 125th anniversary bash is spearheaded by the Vancouver Park Board and will be produced by brand.LIVE, whose résumés include organizing the Squamish Festival and the Celebration of Light. Earlier this week, Vancouver City Council approved the Park Board’s request for city funding to organize the event.

Celebrate! Stanley Park will take place August 24 and 25 at outdoor locations and venues throughout the park. The event is supported by funding from the Government of Canada, local government and corporate funding, and the Stanley Park Brewery has taken the position of lead presenting sponsor.

In 2011, the City of Vancouver held a major summer concert in Stanley Park as part of Vancouver 125 celebrations. Last September, it was also the site for Voices In The Park – a major concert I had the pleasure of attending, benefitting the Sarah McLachlan School of Music, featuring Sarah McLachlan, Bryan Adams, Stevie Nicks, Jann Arden, Hedley and Hey Ocean.

As a frequent summertime visitor of Lord Stanley’s lovely park, I will certainly be attending this special event for the city.
