Spíler: A RockNRolla in Budapest

It’s hard not to get excited about a bistro-pub whose name, when plugged into google translate, means “RockNRolla.”  In addition to being named after one of my favourite Guy Ritchie films, Spíler is also a very cool ruin café in the old Jewish district of Pest VII, which was conveniently close to where I was staying at the end of December.

We stumbled upon Spíler by way of WeLoveBudapest.com, and I’m so glad we did.  The local Magyar (Hungarian) beers available on bottle were delicious, and if you’re not sure what to get, just leave it to the mercy of the amazingly friendly polyglossic staff.  They certainly took care of us.

The “flame pies,” ie. Magyar pizzas, were absolutely delicious, and the beer I tried put a smile on my face.  In particular, the Köleses Sör was delicious and was a fantastic “flame-pie-and-beer” beer.  For a new bistro-pub (four months new), it was a great experience and a lovely introduction to Hungarian hospitality, with some real RockNRolla attitude.
